Children’s Center Dresden

CHALLENGE

With several pediatric clinics, a laboratory, further healthcare facilities (e.g. pharmacy, therapists), a restaurant and a swimming pool Kid in Dresden has developed into a highly complex health centre specified on child care. Meanwhile, the premises include seven house numbers and due to the complex architecture, securing this venue presents a special challenge.Especially in the “open house”, where patients come and go, high performance video surveillance was required in areas like parking lots, entrances and public halls in order to guarantee the security of the child patients and the protection of the highly sensitive and financially valuable medical devices.The aim was to continue using the existing analogue cameras and to modernize the entire system, updating it to the most recent technical developments and ensuring an easier and simpler handling of operation, while respecting the current data privacy protection.

SOLUTION

The modern IP based platform for video management, Netavis Observer, governs the entire installation. The software is known for high compliance, best-in-class performance and unrivaled adaptability for customer requirements.The video streams of the already existing analogue cameras are digitalized by an encoder and the system now includes 48 cameras in total.New sensor controlled IP cameras react to movement and because of the infrared they also deliver night images, all of which are centrally processed with the Observer. In case of costumer defined events, the video images are saved in the archive.All entrances and exits, as well as any addition-al doors that don’t serve patients commute, the extensions to the car parks and many public corridors and passageways are also under video surveillance.

With a multi-monitor display and a highly intuitive user interface the system is operated from a centrally located station within Kid. Well instructed personnel can also intervene and for example open the car park barriers manually in case of traffic jams. Additionally, the premises can be monitored and adequate security measures be taken from an external operating position.

BENEFIT

The installation significantly increased the security of members of staff, the young patients and their relatives. Despite most valuable equipment, the concept of the “open house” can remain.The combination of an intuitive user interface and full observance of the data privacy protection allows the pediatric clinic to operate without security personnel. Because of the high compliance of Netavis Observer with the existing infrastructure, the costs were kept to a minimum and the high scalability of this solution facilitates any additional changes for extensions that might be necessary in the future.
